“There Is Always a Way Forward.” How Traci Quinn Turned the Pain of Incarceration into a Thriving Construction Company

Pink Hats Construction & Development Group – Builders Story

From Pain to Purpose

Traci’s path into construction did not begin on a job site. It began in a hospital.

Her background was in nursing, a profession that taught her to assess problems, think critically, and help people rebuild their lives. Over time, she realized those same skills applied to something larger.

“Over time, I realized those same skills applied to rebuilding communities, not just people.”

Her journey into construction was, in her own words, God-led. Earlier in her life, she was involved in the medicinal cannabis industry, which led to incarceration. During that time, something shifted profoundly.

“God stated He did not have me there on punishment but on purpose,” she says. “One, to see firsthand the injustice within the justice system. Two, to shift the mindsets of the women in prison. And lastly, once released, to redevelop underserved communities.”

When she was released, she says, her assignment would be bigger than herself. She felt called to help rebuild underserved communities and create opportunities for people who needed second chances.

That calling is what led her to start Pink Hats Construction & Development Group, Inc.

“Today our work is about much more than construction,” she says. “For us, it’s all about restoration – restoring neighborhoods, restoring opportunities, and restoring lives.”

Being a Woman in Construction

Being a woman in the construction industry has shaped Traci’s journey in powerful ways. In many rooms, she is still the only woman at the table, and sometimes the only person people don’t expect to be leading the project.

Early on, that meant proving herself through preparation, knowledge, and consistency.

“But over time, I realized being a woman in this industry is not a disadvantage, it’s an opportunity to lead differently.”

Women, she believes, bring vision, collaboration, and a deeper sense of community to the work. For Traci, construction has created a path that will lead to generational wealth for her daughters and others involved.

She intentionally mentors young women and creates pathways for people who may have been overlooked or counted out.

“My story is proof that your past does not disqualify you from building something meaningful.”

The mission of Pink Hats Construction is simple, she says: second chances, restored communities, and a new blueprint for who belongs in this industry. It’s about people, opportunity, and transformation.

How Builders Avenue Helped

Like many small construction companies, one of the biggest barriers Pink Hats faced was access to capital and having financial systems fully organized.

Traci & team

When Traci first connected with Builders Avenue, her financials were not fully together. Instead of turning her away, they stepped in and provided real support.

“They offered hands-on assistance helping both me and my daughter get our QuickBooks set up, organize our accounting, and strengthen our back-office systems,” she says. “They also supported us with estimating resources that have helped us become more efficient and competitive.”

Because of that guidance and support, Pink Hats was able to position the company to secure a $185,000 line of credit – providing critical bridge funding for the renovation of their office space.

“I truly love and appreciate Builders Avenue and the work they do. They are removing barriers that many small construction businesses face and giving entrepreneurs the tools to grow and succeed.”

“I genuinely believe every small contractor should take advantage of their services. Their impact goes far beyond business support – they are helping build stronger companies and stronger communities.”

What She’s Building Now

At the jobsite

Pink Hats Construction & Development Group continues to grow. The neighborhoods it serves are still being restored. And the people watching Traci lead are learning, one project at a time, that this industry has room for them too.

It’s about people, opportunity, and transformation, and those three things, she says, are what every project is built on.

The work continues.
