Our Story

I’m Roxanna Daniel, and together with Christina Atkins, we lead Taj Development, a company that’s all about resilience and entrepreneurship in the construction industry. We started our journey in 2009 in Chicago, focusing on general contracting and finishing work. With nearly 40 years of experience, I’ve seen a lot, and as a Black woman in construction, I’ve faced my share of challenges—navigating both gender and racial barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field. The transition from overt discrimination to more subtle biases has only strengthened my determination and spirit of resilience.

Partnership with Builders Avenue

Our partnership with Builders Avenue has been nothing short of transformative for our business. They’ve given us comprehensive support that’s helped us streamline our back-office operations, refine our project estimating, and ultimately scale our business. What makes them unique is they’re truly about the whole – not just what they can get out of it, but how they can help humanity and move businesses forward. They don’t just talk about support; they put money where their mouth is and make sure we’re prepared for opportunities. With Builders Avenue, we feel protected, supported, and empowered to grow in ways we never thought possible.

Our Shared Impact

As women in construction, we’re committed to paying it forward. We mentor young entrepreneurs, sharing hard-earned lessons and viewing other women not as competition, but as partners. Our goal is to break down barriers and lift each other up in an industry that has traditionally excluded women.

With Builders Avenue, we’re turning these goals into reality. Their comprehensive support helps us scale our business, connect with opportunities, and create a platform from which we can mentor and support the next generation of women in construction. They’re not just helping us grow – they’re helping us create pathways for others.
